On Monday, Daily Post’s daily prompt was glitter so I wrote a post – New Normal – for my other blog in response to the glitter prompt.Β This inspired me to look back at our short trip to Kimberley in the Northern Cape.
Coincidentally, it’s already Thursday (it takes time for me to prepare the photos and the post overall) and it’s my Throwback Travel! Yay! I am actually making it this week.
Kimberley Trip
The trip to Kimberley took place in March 2010. We didn’t go there to travel or to tour. I had a fabulous idea and I convinced hubby, who was still only the object of my affection back then, to go along with my plan. After all, it was for him… about him? Well, he had to do it.
Before I met him, hubby played golf here in South Africa as an amateur, with the goal of becoming a professional golfer. I could have been a pro-golfer’s wife! Or not; fame and fortune, you know. Hmm… That’s why, I believe in destiny.
Northern Cape Open 2010
Anyway, back to Kimberley; we went there for the Northern Cape Open. It was rather disastrous. It was his first tournament upon returning to the game as a competitor, at a ripe age of 24. Haha!
We didn’t win – we didn’t even make the cut, I think – so we just went to visit THE BIG HOLE since we were already in town. At least we could remember the trip with fondness still although not because of a golf tournament.
UPDATE (on the Northern Cape Open “disaster”):
Hubby insists that I update this post and I explain why the Northern Cape Open was disastrous; why he missed the cut. So, here are the reasons:
- We were supposed to leave in the morning as we were driving from Johannesburg to Kimberley. I couldn’t take the day off and I left around lunch time only.
- We had a burst tire (I know we seem to have this quite often; tells me to make sure all tires are good before a long road trip) and we only got a new one 4 hours later. Thus, we only left Gauteng province at almost 5 o’clock in the afternoon. The Open was starting early the next morning.
- Hubby got lost on his way to the tournament so he started off flustered.
- Hubby recovered and actually scored a few strokes under par, I think. However, he was surprised to find out that they were not only playing 18 holes but 36 holes. He did badly on the 2nd round.
In case you didn’t know about our Biggest Hole in South Africa, apart from Wiki, here’s what I found online:
“Kimberley Mine, an open-pit mine in South Africa is one of the worldβs deepest man-man holes. This Big Hole is 705 feet deep and nearly circular. Mined from 1871 to 1914, up to 50,000 miners dug this hole with shovels and picks, yielding 6,000 pounds of diamonds. It was mined to a depth of almost 3,600 feet. Today the pit is only 705 feet deep, located in the center of town, and filled partway with groundwater.”

Diamond’s Cs

I had this diamond from hubby until it disappeared from the house. Yeah, sadly it was stolen. π¦ Hubby’s working on giving me a new one since its mysterious disappearance and I gave up on claiming from the insurance.
Insurance and I am not friends; definitely not a good match.
The pictures are amazingly captured .

so sorry your ring disappeared – I have had this happen to jewelry – and I also can relate to skipping the claim – sometimes not worth it –
great post and nice take on match!

Thank you. I think they make it cumbersome so if you’re busy, you give up. Also, they almost imply you’re just claiming for nothing. I’m sorry, too. It’s sad about theft and insurance company… coincidentally, almost the same. Lol!
Thank you so much for the compliment and thank you for reading. Much appreciated. βΊπ€

well and then if all goes through after the encumbering process – they raise the rates – triple lose…
and my pleasure for reading – have a nice week

That is so true. Sigh! That necessary evil.
Love the Cinderella story, by the way. I don’t know how to re-blog a page. Lol!
