5-Star Sandton Sun

This is the first of the two posts on our Sandton Staycation. I am rather embarrassed to say that this post is about eight months overdue. At least, it is still relevant.

If you have some cash to spare, skip the Garden Court even just once and stay in Sandton Sun Hotel (and/or InterContinental Johannesburg Sandton Towers). I had been to one of the rooms a few years back when one of my college best friends was here on a long flight. The Cathay Pacific crew stayed (stay?) in Sandton Sun. However, even before our staycation, I have always liked the look of the hotel, from the restaurant area, or from the escalators. It has one of the loveliest chandeliers I have seen.

Also, the hotel’s restaurant, specifically the outdoor one, San Deck, is pretty cool, especially on a beautiful summer’s day or night. Prior to our stay, we had visited San Deck for lunch, drinks and dinner.

I was ravenous and devoured my salmon.

Clearly, I wasn’t the only one who enjoyed my chosen meal.

Then, this was last year’s Christmas Eve dinner, with hubby, son and daughter. This was during our stay in the hotel. I think I had pork belly. The picture doesn’t do it justice. It was delicious!

I was ill, and with fever, so all I could manage was dinner. I didn’t go to the reception to take pictures. You see, the hotel rooms/elevators can also be accessed via the mall, Sandton City, which is my perfect entry point, as I get to walk past (or stop by) Jimmy Choo.

At least, I had kept these pics from when we had dinner with my father.

However you plan to get to your hotel room, I think you will appreciate the route.

I have to say that Sandton Sun Hotel did not disappoint. We may not have had an impressive bathroom but I truly loved our room. Nature did help, too, as we had an amazing view of the sunset.

Isn’t this pretty awesome?

I can’t dislike that headboard.

The Nespresso machine is always a wonderful added bonus.

So yeah, not a massive bathroom.

But, it does have everything a traveler needs and then some.

And, not only do you get a shampoo and conditioner (not a conditioning shampoo!), you get a foam bath AND a shower gel. Lotion, too.

To be expected, there is complimentary bottled/still water. Housekeeping isn’t stingy with ice, either.

The service is also excellent. It has to be. As I said, I was sick, so I got comfortable early, but I needed to swipe the credit card for dinner and other extras. I guess, they wouldn’t have me walking around in a robe so a reception staff came up with the card machine.

Unfortunately, I am unable to share any breakfast story as I did not make breakfast, but hubby sent me the picture below. He decided that all the hotels serve pretty much the same things. I am not a breakfast person so some fruits with pastries are perfect for me.

Overall, I would highly recommend Sandton Sun Hotel. I would go back, too. And, I won’t be sick, although it was a perfectly good place to rest my ailing body.

Coincidentally, as majority of Filipinos would have it, considering that we are now in September, we can now get excited about Christmas. So, this was us checking out on Christmas day, on our way to walk over to Intercontinental Johannesburg Sandton Towers.

Tsogo Sun was running a SunBreaks promo and since Johannesburg is practically a ghost town during the Christmas holidays, we got the most reasonable rate for our stay in Sandton Sun Hotel. Otherwise, I would find it nonsensical to pay the regular rate when home is about fifteen minutes away. For more details, visit Tsogo Sun here and Sandton Sun here.

    1. Thank you so much, my friend! I did have moments of feeling fine so I could take those pics. 😄

I have a lot to share from our American trip. Jeslyn didn’t want to leave and her cousins said she could just go to their school. Hubby loves New York.

      Lotsa love and hugs. ❤🤗
